Dale Pekrul, Senior Consultant

Mr. Pekrul has served as a Senior Associate Consultant to Colin Gordon & Associates since 1993, providing experienced support on CGA projects as needed. He has been involved in numerous projects involving room acoustics, HVAC noise control, and laboratory acoustics.

He has practiced acoustical consulting for the past 27 years. Between 1976 and 1982 he was the manager of the Acoustics Division of Buonaccorsi and Associates, a large mechanical/electrical engineering firm. It was during this time that he became familiar with the area of HVAC design, and he has utilized this knowledge to become an authority in the area of mechanical systems noise and vibration control. In the period 1983 to 1993 he served as a Consultant at Paoletti Associates.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1974. While at Purdue, he concentrated on course work involving instrumentation systems, architectural acoustics, and noise control, and had an opportunity to study acoustics at Ray Herrick Laboratories.

Mr. Pekrul has also been involved in many projects that required the evaluation of environmental noise from a variety of sources including traffic and aircraft operations. He has assisted in the creation of software used to control automated computer-controlled environmental noise measurement equipment. His experience also extends to the area of sound isolation from exterior noise sources, as well as the control of noise between interior spaces. He as successfully completed over 100 projects during his career related to residential noise control.

Noise and vibration control in laboratory facilities is one of Mr. Pekrul's areas of specialization. His knowledge of the unique design requirements for this type of facility led to the writing of chapters on acoustics and vibration control in Volumes 1 and 2 of the Handbook of Facilities Planning. He has also authored or co-authored technical papers on acoustics that have been presented at meeting of the Audio Engineering Society, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, and the Institute of Noise Control Engineers. These papers covered subjects as diverse as restaurant acoustics and the control of noise from plumbing systems.
